The 44 Thai consonants

Grouped the way the tone rules actually use them: by class. Each one has its name, its sound at the start and end of a syllable, a mnemonic and recorded example words.

Mid class (9)

Mid class. Nine consonants. With no tone mark they give a mid tone on a live syllable and a low tone on a dead one.

High class (11)

High class. Eleven consonants. With no tone mark they give a rising tone on a live syllable.

Low class (24)

Low class. Twenty-four consonants, the biggest group. With no tone mark they give a mid tone on a live syllable.
