Feelings are built from ใจ
ใจ means heart, and dozens of emotion words are made from it: ดีใจ glad, เสียใจ sorry, ใจร้อน impatient, ใจเย็น calm. Learn ใจ and a whole family of vocabulary opens at once.

เกรงใจ has no English word
The reluctance to impose on someone, to trouble them or make them go out of their way. It explains why an offer may be politely declined twice before being accepted, and why someone might not tell you there's a problem.

Landmarks beat street names
Addresses are often given by what's nearby rather than by road: opposite the 7-Eleven, behind the temple. Learning ตรงข้าม (opposite) and ใกล้ (near) will get you further than memorising street vocabulary.

ไม่เป็นไร covers a lot of ground
It's nothing, never mind, you're welcome, no harm done, don't worry about it. One phrase doing the work of six, and among the most useful things you can carry.
